OUGD603 - Extended Practice - Léon Posters - Minimal Movie Posters

As the second component of the research to this brief, rather than looking and vintage examples of posters from cult films instead the decision was made to investigate more contemporary examples of design outcomes for cult and classic cinematography.

As of recently there has been a very evident emerging trend of this style of posters, with a huge uprising from designers globally attempting to encapsulate classic cinema withina more contemporary singular style. This is evident when looking at the gobally popular design blog for this topic ‘Minimal Movie Posters’ of which has received over 3000 contemporary classic cinema poster submissions from designers within the last 12 Months

Unline the previously mentioned vintage cult cinema posters rather than depicting the main character or a certain scene from from the film, these examples of contemporary poster design instead focus on depicting the concept or crucial iconography of the film. This is achieved by the utilisation of small examples of iconic symbolism within the poster designs.
By extracting a small iconic item or aspect of the film and conveying it graphically through the poster the designers are illuding to the concept and intention of said films rather than making it immedietly obvious like in the previous vintage examples. This is immedietely sucessfull as rather than telling the viewer the exact intention of the poster, it instead leaves the understanding of the poster up to the viewer themselves.
