The first component of the research for this Hyde Park Picture House design brief was to partake in research of which would help to identify a number of aesthetic styles of which could be utilised through my final design outcomes, the decision of which aesthetic styling to follow coming from an informed decision regarding the research.
Due to the fact that the brief doesnt involve designing for the new release of a film, but instead designing for a screening of a cult classic film the decision was made to investige research in to the film posters of a number of vintage cult films to gain an understanding of the aesthetic styling used within the design.
All of these examples of cult classic film posters all feature vast imagery from the films (manifested in a still of one scene or the protagonistic character/s) as the means in which the imagery and iconography from the film is communicated to the viewer via the poster design. This imagery is them combined and contrasted by the use of vibrant striking colours and bold pronounced typography.
Although these posters are sucessful in exhibiting the feature/content of the films and attracting the attention of a potential viewer they convey little or no contextual links to the content of the film and so this style of symbolism is sonething from which I wanted to stray from within this brief.
